About Oxfordshire Wills Index - Acknowledgements

This introduction has been adapted and updated from that originally prepared by D.M.Barrett for British Record Society vol.109.

The compilation and publication of this index has been a co-operative effort with contributions from numerous persons over many years, not all of which can now be properly and individually acknowledged. I have already paid tribute to the labours of Maude Wheeler, Leslie Wood and Dr. Jean Andrews; I also gratefully acknowledge the contributions made by other unnamed volunteers, members of the Bodleian Library staff, and more recently staff of the Oxfordshire County Record Office towards the work of completing the slip index. We are also much indebted to the present County Archivist, Carl Boardman, and all his staff in Oxfordshire Record Office for all their help in forwarding the project at later stages. I am very grateful for the support and patience as well as the skills of my fellow editors. We are all three very grateful for the advice and encouragement we have constantly received from Jeremy Gibson from the moment seven years ago when publication became a practical prospect, but especially we gratefully acknowledge all his work on the final stages of production, converting the text to a more economical format and providing the [link to map image]. We are also very grateful for constant help and encouragement from Jack Howard-Drake whose computer skills were especially appreciated when we were compiling the supplementary indexes.

Whilst this volume was prepared entirely under the auspices of the British Record Society, at a late stage the Oxfordshire Record Society was invited to collaborate in its publication, thus ensuring a far wider circulation amongst people with Oxfordshire interests.

The British Record Society gratefully acknowledges grants made towards the cost of publication by the Greening Lamborn Trust, The Aurelius Charitable Trust and the W.A. Pantin Trust.
