This is an index to wills proved in the Consistory Court of Lincoln 1601–1652 which included the Consistory and Commissary Courts of the Bishop in the archdeaconry of Lincoln, the Chancellor's Court, and the court of the Archdeacon of Lincoln whose jurisdiction covered the whole of the county of Lincoln except the north-west quarter which formed the archdeaconry of Stow.

Where are the originals held?
The original wills are held at Lincolnshire Archives www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/archives. To obtain a copy of an original will you need to complete an order form which is downloadable from www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/residents/archives/order-forms Post the completed form to Lincolnshire Archives but do not send any money at this stage. When the order form has been processed Lincolnshire Archives will advise you of the full cost etc. Alternatively you can visit Lincolnshire Archives personally, details of opening hours etc can be found on their website. Which court or courts are included?
This volumes indexes the wills of the Consistory Court of Lincoln 1601 – 1652 Which diocese is involved? Lincolnshire was in the Diocese of Lincoln. What does the index include? All names and places appearing in the will plus incidental information such as occupation where found in the original documents are included in the index. Names are arranged alphabetically. This means some name variants may not appear clustered together. Names in the index are according to the spelling used in the documents, usually based on the signaturee of the testator. Dates of wills are given in 'Old Style' or Julian Calendar. The folio number identifies the group of pages, anywhere from 2 to 16, within which the will's first page appears. NOTES * An asterisk placed against an entry denotes that an abstract of the will is to be found in 'Lincolnshire Wills 1600-1617' by the Rev. Canon A R Maddison FSA (Lincoln 1888)
